Located lakeside in beautiful City Park in downtown Kelowna, British Columbia is the Kelowna Lawn Bowling Club, a scenic, tranquil setting for all those who wish to enjoy the sport of lawn bowling. Established in 1909, the KLBC is one of Kelowna's oldest continuously operating recreation organizations.
The mission of the club is to provide recreation for our members and at the same time, to promote the sport of lawn bowling to the general public in the Central Okanagan and beyond.
In addition to facilitating play for our members, the club offers greens and/or clubhouse rentals for charitable or corporate groups.
Lawn bowling is a game that involves rolling biased balls called “bowls” at a smaller target ball called a “jack”. The game is played on a purpose built, flat surface called a “green” which may be natural grass or artificial turf. Each green is divided into a number of “rinks” so that multiple games can be played simultaneously on the bowling green. The biased balls are not perfectly round, which causes them to be slightly heavier on one side than the opposite and results in the bowls following a curved trajectory after delivery.
A standard game is played between two competitors (“singles”) or two teams of two to four players (“pairs”, “triples” or “fours”). Each game is divided into a number of “ends”.
Each end begins with one of the competitors rolling the jack to the opposite end of the rink. Once the jack has stopped rolling, it is positioned in the centre of the rink and play begins. Next, each team alternates rolling their bowls with the object of getting their bowls closer to the jack than their opponents’. Once all bowls have been delivered by both opponents, the score is calculated, completing the end. The score is determined by counting the number of bowls for the competitor (or team) that are closer to the jack than all of the opponent’s bowls. The game ends when the specified number of ends have been completed or the maximum score has been reached by one team.
A sport for all ages!

The Kelowna Lawn Bowling Club has been operating continuously for over 110 years and in City Park for about 80 years.
